Who are We?

Maybe you’ve seen us about town? In galleries and museums, in restaurants and cafés, or outdoors exploring Hamburg – groups of women of different nationalities, having fun together, pursuing our interests and speaking English? That’s us: we are AGIWA.

Members from Britain, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Lebanon and South Africa enjoy an Event.

Some of our events are pretty spectacular, like our trip to India or our festive Christmas Lunch. Others are more intimate, like our bridge and book clubs held in private homes. There is something for everyone, from tennis and golf for the active to language groups and dinners in town for those who want to chat. And of course, every season of the year has its special highlights. To find out more, click on “What do we do?”

“Members at the International Women’s Day Reception in Hamburg’s City Hall

Founded in 1966 as a club to promote friendship and understanding between British and German women, AGIWA soon extended membership to include women of all nationalities. It is non-political, non-religious and non-profit making with an elected committee. With 130 members of over 30 nationalities today, AGIWA has become an integral part of the social and intercultural scene in Hamburg.

Interested? Why not join in one of our activities as a guest to get to know us? You can come alone – most new members do, and we’ll soon make you feel at home. We welcome all women who share our aims and have a reasonable command of English – the language of our club. AGIWA - a great way to make friends in Hamburg!

Come on board!

We'd love to have you join us!
